Equipment must withstand massive voltage fluctuations, ranging from 14V to 154V, and cope with power interruptions defined by the EN50155 standard. For instance, devices in the S3 class must operate seamlessly even during a 20ms voltage drop to 0V.

Historically, engineers relied on bulky, high-voltage capacitor circuits to bridge these gaps. Today, advanced solutions like the Traco Power TEP 40UIR series simplify this drastically. By integrating a hold-up circuit directly into the ultra-wide input (12:1) DC/DC converter, operators can use smaller, cost-effective 25V capacitors. This innovation reduces the physical footprint up to 15 times, making the design of passenger displays, Wi-Fi systems, and computing platforms both cheaper and significantly more reliable.

IoT Monitoring and Predictive Maintenance

Data collected via sensors is securely transmitted using IoT routers (such as Teltonika RUTX12 or RUTM50) equipped with dual SIM, 5G, and GNSS capabilities. Before reaching the cloud, compact industrial computers like the Kontron KBox provide "Edge Computing"-filtering and analyzing data locally. This architecture enables predictive maintenance algorithms to detect wear and tear early, scheduling repairs before a vehicle is forced out of service.

To establish deterministic networks without latency, industrial switches from Kontron and ADLink are deployed. These devices offer extended temperature ranges (-40°C to +75°C) and robust protection against vibration and electromagnetic interference (EMC). When combined with Teltonika routers utilizing encrypted VPN tunnels (OpenVPN, IPsec) and firewall protections, the network becomes highly resilient against both physical harshness and cyber threats.
